Combine that with the recent jump in privately funded mercs used at home and abroad...

Microsoft Nation State

(Deleted comment)

Well...maybe I did say that...

But after a long talk with my local Wal-Mart Re-Education and Development Center Executive, I've become convinced that living in a dark dystopian future isn't so bad -- so long as Wal-Mart is leading the way!

It won't matter if no one has a job or freedom, Wal-Mart will continue to drive down prices until everything is free and we all live a glorious, plastic lifestyle.

Everyday Low Cunning, That's Wal-Mart!

I wonder when Wal-Martovia will start producing its own nuclear weapons...or, perhaps when it started producing them. Perhaps accidents with radiation could explain that smiley thing. * shudder *

Gee, sounds like Disney Land

This has been done before, just not often. At least they are still subject to tax laws. Now if they start applying this on a wider scale...

plotting... plotting...

... all 'cause of a wee little girl with a can of gasoline...

yeah right. the lobby state achieves the same result whilst the masses still pay for the trash man. any corp shooting for extraterr would be obligated out of necessity to provide all sorts of crap that's better handled already.

why get permission for embassy-like treatment when you can change the overarching laws with money to make more money? uh oh, i see a feedback bling-lock-loop.

There's a technicality in that, though...that whole Horatio Alger, "you might be rich too someday, so don't tax the wealthy too much" mentality.

It strikes me that more folks want to BE IN the loop, vs BREAKING it.

Is it too cynical to think some type of revolution (not neccesarily violent, mind) might be the only recouse? 'Cuz I'm starting to think like that.

So this is how the whole "MegaCorps" thing started in Shadowrun....

Does this mean that if Wal-Mart fails in this initiative, then I'll never get to be a magicky elf? =)

I'd heard about this before - from Democracy Now!...and it STILL gets me mad!

And the mercs, as previously mentioned, plus Japan already has megacorps archologies (sp?).

Well, chummer...

Huzzah - voted down!

Thankfully, the results were 2-1 against, and Wal-Mart will have to put off constructing their franchulate.

Re: Huzzah - voted down!

Though I'm still kinda surprised that the San Francisco area is the one place WalMart had won a vote...
